Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2002 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation of the Côte de Nuits. One of the most respected winemakers in the Côte de Nuits, Bernard Dugat-Py is a 13th-generation vigneron managing 5ha of vineyards, including holdings in several Premiers Crus sites and three Grands Crus, around Gevrey-Chambertin. On the domaine`s 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes. "The medium to dark ruby-coloured 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, aged in 25-30% new oak, reveals super-ripe, waxy black cherry aromas. Deep, lush, and concentrated it is also pure, fresh, and structured. Loads of cherries can be found in its boisterous character as well as in its long, intense, slightly firm finish." (06/04) 88-90 points Stephen Tanzer. "Deep ruby-red colour. Quintessential Gevrey aromas of black raspberry, espresso and game; slightly reduced. Sweet and supple but with very good acidity giving backbone to the black fruit and liquorice flavours. Finishes with smooth tannins." Wine Advocate, 2004

(a blend of fruit from Fontenys, Corbeaux and Perrieres) Bright medium ruby. Perfumed aromas of cassis and coffee. Bright dark berry flavors are complicated by discreet minerality and floral and gamey nuances. Highly aromatic in the mouth, with superb cut. Finishes with firm tannins and terrific focus. This and the following 2002s are aging in 100% new barrels.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2004

A Respect for Tradition

Founded in the late 1980s by Pierre Dugat and now run by his son Bernard, Domaine Dugat-Py have swiftly risen to be recognised as one of the most exciting wineries in the Côte d'Or. Although Bernard produces excellent wines from the communes of Fixin and Pernand Vegelesses, Dugat-Py is primarily known for their excellent Gevrey-Chambertin, which run from Villages level all the way to Grand Cru. Vines are venerable, averaging 65 years, and all vineyard work is done in a traditional manner, including the use of a horse-drawn plough.

Dugat Py have been fully organic since 2003 and are moving towards biodynamic practices in some vineyards. Winemaking is low intervention and the wines are bottling without fining or filtration. The wines are matured in French oak barrels from renowned coopers François Frères and 100% new oak is used for the Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines.
