The Gevrey-Chambertin Robert Groffier 2005 is a notable expression of Pinot Noir, hailing from a vintage recognised for its potential longevity. This wine is sourced predominantly from the Les Seuvrées vineyard, located near the esteemed Grand Cru Mazoyères-Chambertin. The domaine, founded in the early 20th century, possesses a strong reputation for meticulous vineyard practices and a commitment to traditional vinification techniques. In this vintage, the wine displays aromas of black cherry and subtle earthy notes, with a palate marked by a structured acidity and tannins, suggesting further maturation will enhance its complexity.

Vinous
Deep red-ruby. Wild dark berries and meat on the superripe nose. Sweet, fat and large-scaled for village wine; fills the mouth with smoke and game flavors. At the limits of roasted but manages to maintain its balance. When I mentioned to Serge Groffier that I found this wine a bit heavy after tasting the '06s, he noted that none of his parcels reached 13% potential alcohol in 2005.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2008
