Situated in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is a leading wine producer in Burgundy. The estate was founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley and it is now in the hands of Erwan and Eve, the seventh generation of one of the largest landowners in the region. This release is the 1999 vintage of the cuvée Les Cazetiers, which is considered to be one of the best Premier Cru sites in Gevrey. The 1999 vintage was marked by a warm and dry spring, which allowed the vines to bud early. The summer was also warm and dry.

Vinous
Good full red. Old-school, rather claret-like aromas of redcurrant, tarte au mirabelle, coffee, mocha, mint and menthol. At once firm and silky; not hard but not hugely ripe or concentrated either. (Faiveley was doing longer cuvaison and more energetic extraction in 1999.) Not sweet or particularly fruity or expansive but still full of life, with the menthol quality giving the middle palate a juicy character. The slightly gritty tannins turn dustier with air, reaching the front teeth.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2018
