Domaine de la Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice 2015 is a village-level Pinot Noir from a single vineyard located on the eastern side of the Gevrey appellation. The vines are farmed biodynamically and the 2015 bottling shows a profile of bright red cherry and floral notes with an underlying earthiness. It was aged in French oak barrels with a focus on preserving the wine`s natural freshness and lift. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a clean mineral finish that reflects the alluvial soils of the site.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin la Justice had been bottled the day prior to my visit. Despite that, it offers attractive redcurrant and cranberry scents, orange rind and hints of brown spice. I expect it will open up aromatically within a few days. The palate is tightly wound on the entry with juicy red berry fruit, cedar and undergrowth notes, just a pinch of white pepper and good depth and grip on the finish. This will gain cohesion with time - the components are all here for a very delicious Gevrey. - Neal Martin
Vinous
Moderately saturated medium red. More open-knit on the nose than the basic village cuvée but also more dominated by spicy oak. Then quite firm in the middle, offering flavors of redcurrant and dried flowers. Here the tannins are a bit dry and granular and will need some bottle aging.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2017

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
