Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin En Mortot 2002 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of En Champs in the Gevrey-Chambertin commune of the Côte de Nuits. Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Denis Mortet is a family-owned estate run by Laurence Mortet and her two children, Clémence and Arnaud. The domaine was founded in 1956 by Charles Mortet with just a single hectare of vines to his name. This particular cuvée comes from the lieu-dit of En Mortot in Gevrey-Chambertin. "The dark ruby-coloured 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin En Mortot was harvested at 13.5% natural potential alcohol. Its spicy, blackberry-dominated nose leads to a medium-bodied character with outstanding balance, breadth, and depth of fruit. Loads of liquorice-laced black cherries and flowers can be discerned in this velvety wine." Wine Advocate, 2004

Full red-ruby. Black fruits, smoked meat and oak on the nose. Silky but tightly wound, with notes of black raspberry, licorice, game and torrefaction. Boasts good volume but finishes a bit clenched, with less early length than the “regular” Gevrey-Chambertin.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2004
