Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Denis Mortet is a family-owned estate run by Laurence Mortet and her two children, Clémence and Arnaud. The Domaine was originally founded in 1956 by Charles Mortet with just a single hectare of vines to his name. This particular cuvée comes from a lieu-dit in Gevrey-Chambertin and it is made from old vines. 1999 was an exceptional vintage for Pinot Noir, offering deep colours and rich, ripe black fruit of a unique purity.

Vinous
Deep ruby. Aromatic nose of blackberry, bitter chocolate, leather and game. Suppler and denser than the other village wines from Gevrey, with more depth of flavor. Torrefaction notes of espresso and bitter chocolate. Finishes longer, with more successfully buffered tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2001
