Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 2015 is a village-level Pinot Noir from several parcels of old vines located within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation of Burgundy. The 2015 features a profile of ripe black cherry and forest floor. It was fermented with a high proportion of whole clusters and aged in a small amount of new oak to preserve its primary energy. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple mouthfeel and a firm mineral core that provides balance to the fruit weight. A concentrated and approachable expression of the village Gevrey style.
Vinous
(from the north side of the village; the Aux Echézeaux is from the extreme south side): Bright medium red. Red fruits, animal fur and game lifted by a floral element on the nose. Plush and seamless; a step up in thickness and suavity from the Aux Echézeaux, with its deep raspberry fruit complicated by a mineral component. Mouthfilling but not heavy, finishing quite long, with tannins totally supported by fruit.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2017

Poise and Balance

Jean-Marie Fourrier has been at the helm of his family domaine since the mid 1990s and has steadily risen to become one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most important vignerons. Having served an apprentice under the famous Henri Jayer before a brief stint at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, Jean-Marie returned to France with a clear vision to raise to improve the quality of his wines to be the equal of any in the Côte de Nuits.

Grapes are destemmed after picking and fermentation is kept on the cooler side. A 36 - 48 hour maceration precedes the fermentation, punching down is manual and malolactic fermentation is restricted through temperature control. These are superbly elegant wines which push their ethereal fruit character to the fore.
