Domaine Fourrier is a family-owned wine produced situated in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate is currently run by Jean-Marie Fourrier who took over from his father in 1994, at the young age of 23. Before that, Jean-Marie worked an apprentice for both Henry Jayer and Véronique Drouhin at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon. This is the domaine’s Gevrey-Chambertin from 2010, a very good year for Burgundy. The wines turned out elegant and precise, particularly the ones from the Côte de Nuits. Drinking well now.

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has an open, simple but effective bouquet with scents of cranberry, raspberry and fig, developing an undercurrent of earthiness with time in the glass, later a splash of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, moderate depth with plenty of raspberry fruit and a grippy, quite saline finish. No reason not to drink now. Tasted at Domaine Direct's dinner at Noble Rot. Neal Martin1st May 2019

Jean-Marie Fourrier has been at the helm of his family domaine since the mid 1990s and has steadily risen to become one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most important vignerons. Having served an apprentice under the famous Henri Jayer before a brief stint at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, Jean-Marie returned to France with a clear vision to raise to improve the quality of his wines to be the equal of any in the Côte de Nuits.

Grapes are destemmed after picking and fermentation is kept on the cooler side. A 36 - 48 hour maceration precedes the fermentation, punching down is manual and malolactic fermentation is restricted through temperature control. These are superbly elegant wines which push their ethereal fruit character to the fore.
