Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1996 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation of the Côte de Nuits. The late Denis Mortet established his eponymous domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 1990s. Until his premature death in 2006, he was a hugely respected winemaker in Burgundy, renowned for his meticulous attention to detail. Today, the estate is run by his son Arnaud Mortet. "The Gevrey Chambertin 1996 is a surprisingly good effort from Dennis Mortet. Showed good fruit and nice sweet tones. Mortet was highly extracted in the mid-1990s, but this wine has developed better than expected, and now behaves like a fairly classic Gevrey – a good to very good wine." Winehog, 2022

Vinous
Bright ruby-red. Violet and dark berries on the nose. Supple and fleshy on entry, then the youthful dark berry flavors are given precision and thrust by strong acids. Quite backward, even a bit stunted today, but intensely flavored.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1999
