The Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St Jacques Mommessin 1985 is a notable red Burgundy, produced by the esteemed house of Mommessin, founded in 1865. This wine hails from a Premier Cru vineyard renowned for its distinctive terroir, known for its limestone-rich soils and ideal climate conditions for Pinot Noir. It offers complex aromas of ripe red fruit, subtle earthiness and herbal notes. Mommessin`s commitment to quality is evident, with vineyards cultivated under meticulous care, ensuring the preservation of traditional practices. The vineyard’s historical significance is marked by its connection to the pilgrimage paths of Saint Jacques.
Vinous
The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques 1er Cru comes from one of my own bottles. As previous bottles have shown, it is initially markedly reduced on the nose, a little stemmy at first and then reveals enticing gamey aromas. The palate is superior to the aromatics. This is very well balanced and harmonious with fine tannin, still imbued with a sense of symmetry I have remarked upon since barrel. Promising, however, I would like to see some melioration on the nose. Tasted privately at home. - Neil Martin
