Clos Saint-Jacques, one of Gevrey-Chambertin`s renowned Premier Cru sites, occupies southeast-facing slopes characterized by limestone-rich soils. Among the privileged few who own a piece of this prestigious Clos is Maison Louis Jadot, the prominent grower and négociant in Burgundy. The wine is crafted from Pinot Noir grapes that have been destemmed and undergo fermentation in vats for an extended period of 3 to 4 weeks. After this, it matures for 18 months in oak barrels. Expect a multi-layered flavour profile, including forest fruits, rose petal notes, and a rejuvenating mineral quality.

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru (magnum) has a very intense bouquet with more concentration and darker fruit than the 2009, offering blackberry, bilberry, oyster shell and pressed iris flowers. The medium-bodied palate features gentle grip, wonderful substance and a surfeit of tart red berry fruit. It is slightly grainy in texture with hints of black truffle on the finish. This improves with aeration and develops a wonderful peppery note with time. A Clos Saint-Jacques built for the long haul. Neal Martin1st May 2019

Sweet, mellow, confident, comfortable. Not rich but great balance and energy. A big wine. Hint of bitter cherries but so much else. Real undertow. (JR)Jancis Robinson18th November 2011
