Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St Jacques 2005 is a mature-vintage Burgundy red wine from the Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru of Clos St Jacques in the Côte de Nuits. Clos Saint-Jacques is arguably the most prestigious 1er Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin and in good vintages produces Pinot Noirs of a Grand Cru level. "A notably pretty if ripe nose features notes of spicy and still relatively primary red berries spiked with hints of leather, humus and a whiff of the sauvage. The intense, dense and full-bodied flavours brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in a stony, palate coating and driving finish that is serious, firm and beautifully persistent. This robust effort remains quite youthful, indeed it`s going to require another 15 to 20 years before it fully matures. In a word, impressive." Burghound, 2019

The 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru (magnum) is blessed with a beautiful bouquet of kirsch, wild strawberry, crushed stone and floral aromas, perhaps closer to the essence of Clos Saint-Jacques than the 2001. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry. There is fine weight and salinity in the mouth, and plenty of substance toward the sensual but utterly harmonious finish. This will probably benefit from another two or three years in bottle, and then those patient enough to cellar it will surely be rewarded with two decades of drinking pleasure.
