For four generations, the Rousseau family has worked tirelessly and passionately on some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. A statue of Saint Jacques was unearthed in this vineyard, which was then dedicated to the saint. Clean and balanced with strong, smooth tannins and a dominant aroma of blackcurrants. An exquisite Red Burgundy with a beautifully intense mouth-feel. Here is the 2017 vintage en magnum.
95 Vinous
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a bright and youthful nose. Fine delineation with exuberant dark berry fruit, this still needs more bottle age to subsume the oak. Wonderful redcurrant, cranberry notes develop, with orange blossom hints. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiseled tannins and exquisite balance, yet it clams up toward the finish. Huge potential, but it needs time in bottle. Tasted blind at the Wallace brothers' Xmas dinner.Neal Martin1st March 2023
