Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques Armand Rousseau 2011 is a Pinot Noir from the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation in Burgundy. Domaine Armand Rousseau is a legendary name in Burgundy, celebrated for its profound, long-lived and terroir-driven wines. The wines from its 2.2-hectare holding in Clos Saint-Jacques are particularly prized. This bottling offers a complex nose of red cherry, wild strawberry and forest floor, with nuances of dried rose petals and a subtle smoky minerality. The palate is elegant and poised, with a silky texture and a firm tannic backbone.

Good full red. Spicy red berries, cherry, licorice and a hint of horseradish on the nose. Juicy, brisk and taut; not hugely fleshy but energetic and penetrating. Conveys an impression of density without weight in the manner of the best 2011s. Tightly wound and very backward, finishing with terrific spicy persistence. Eric Rousseau bottled his 2011s in April of 2013; his bottles now have the domain name embossed on the bottom of the glass.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2014
