Domaine Rossignol-Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 2014 is a biodynamic Premier Cru red Burgundy from a parcel situated directly below Mazis-Chambertin. The 2014 vintage is celebrated for its classical proportions and racy acidity. This wine displays a fragrant nose of rose petals, red cherry and forest floor, followed by a palate defined by fine-grained tannins and a vertical mineral spine. After a decade in bottle, the oak has fully integrated, revealing a savory complexity and a long, refreshing finish.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Rossignol-Trapet`s 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur has a vibrant bouquet with scents of cranberry, redcurrant and bergamot, very well defined and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, supple tannin. This feels elegant and nicely poised, although whether it has the substance and structure to be a long-term proposition is another matter. I would be inclined to drink this over the next 5-8 years. Tasted September 2017.

Mid crimson. Light notes of dark-red fruit and just a slight oak-spice effect. Very dry texture but not drying. Paper-fine tannins. Light-bodied, fresh and so finely textured. Refined in its supreme dryness. (JH)
Vinous
Healthy dark red. Ripe aromas of redcurrant, cherry liqueur, coffee and spicy oak. Fatter and rounder in the middle palate than the Combottes or Corbeaux but without quite the definition of those two wines. Flavors of dark berries and flowers show a saline nuance. More fat here but still a wine of modest concentration. Finishes nicely fresh and firm.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2016
