The Gevrey-Chambertin Clos des Varoilles Prieuré-Roch 2021 hails from a notable monopole in the Côte de Nuits, acquired in 2020. This site comprises 6 hectares and ranks as the fifth largest monopole in the region. Nestled within the protective Combe Lavaux, the vineyard benefits from unique climatic conditions, allowing for a degree of freshness even in warmer vintages. Domaine Prieuré-Roch is known for its minimal intervention ethos, focusing on expressing the terroir without excessive manipulation. Expect a complex interaction of red fruit and nuanced earthiness, representative of its illustrious origin.

Prieure Roch

A Burgundian Titan

Founded in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, whose family are part-owners of the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Prieure Roch produce wine from vineyard parcels in communes as diverse as Ladoix, Chambertin, Vosne Romanée and Savigny Les Beune. Farming of the vineyards is done to organic standards, veering towards full biodynamics in some instances and cellar techniques are strictly traditional - vinified in large wooden vats, manual punching down and without the use of sulphur.

Wines are kept in barrel for 12-24 months before bottling, although some experiments with extended ageing have taken place - most notably in 2002. These are elegant wines with the ripeness and poise that one would expect from a family that also produce arguable some of the world's great Pinot Noir.
