Domaine Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 2016 is a village Burgundy Pinot Noir from the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation of the Côte de Nuits. Something of a cult producer in Burgundy, Claude Dugat produces concentrated but also very focused and elegant Pinot Noirs with long ageing potential. The domaine`s village Gevrey is matured in 60% new and 40% one-year-old barrels. All the barrels are from Francois Frères. "The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages is superb, unfurling in the glass with a youthful bouquet of sweet cassis, wild berries and peony that mingles with subtle hints of candied peel, grilled meat and rich forest floor. On the palate, it`s medium to full-bodied, pure and velvety, structured around a chassis of fine-grained tannins that will demand some bottle age, underpinned by bright acids and concluding with a strikingly fragrant finish. It`s a beautiful wine that exemplifies the fragrant, precise style that Bertrand Dugat and his siblings are coaxing from their family`s enviable patrimony of old and meticulously farmed vines." Wine Advocate, 2019
Vinous
Bright, dark red. Very pure aromas of cherry, minerals, smoke and spices. Juicy but rather lean, showing a fine-grained texture but only modest material. Good honest village wine with a salty finish, but a bit dominated by its acidity in the early going.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2018
