Based in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was formed in 1999 when wine entrepreneur Jean-Claude Boisset decided to consolidate all the vineyard holdings of his various négociant companies acquired over the years. With nearly 40 hectares of vineyard area and over 30 different appellations – including six Grand Crus – this is one of Burgundy’s leading estates. This particular release comes from the Premier Cru Bel Air, where the Domaine owns a 1-hectare plot, organic certified since 1999. The 2020 vintage was one of the earliest harvests on record in Burgundy and these Pinot Noir grapes were picked on the 1st of September. The wine was aged for 16 months in oak barrels [36% new] and bottled on 11th February 2022. A limited production of only 1887 bottles.
Vinous
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel-Air 1er Cru contains 50% whole bunch. Bunches of rose petals and violets on the very floral bouquet, this is well-defined and quite expressive. The palate is medium-bodied with blackberry and raspberry fruit, quite dense for Bel-Air with a structured and slightly saline finish. Give this 3-5 years in bottle. Neal Martin1st December 2021

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
