The Jean-René Germanier Clos de la Couta is a high-altitude Pinot Noir from the Val d`Hérens, Switzerland, with vineyards situated between 650 and 800 metres on glacial moraine soils. This terroir and the 12 months of wood ageing contribute to a wine of Alpine energy and complex finesse. The 2018 vintage shows a complex, smoky nose with notes of cloves and blackberries. The palate is simultaneously lively and supple, supported by fine, elegant tannins, resulting in a long, refined finish that expresses the unique high-elevation character of the Valais.

The 2022 Pinot Noir de Vex Clos de la Couta is pure, fresh and spicy on the nose that intermingles ripe, red cherry aromas with spicy notes. Smooth, round and charming on the palate, with fine and lively as well as stable and spicy/peppery tannins, this is an intense, full-bodied, and juicy Pinot Noir that is warming yet not alcoholic on the long, elegant and aromatic finish. Fermented with one-third whole clusters and vinified in 100% new 500-liter barrels, this is an age-worthy Pinot Noir from 650-800 meters above sea level. It comes from a plot with 600 vines per hectare, planted on calcareous moraine soils in 2010. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Vétroz, March 2025. - Stephan Reinhardt
