Château Gazin 2015 is a Pomerol red Bordeaux assembled from Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2015 growing season in Bordeaux was characterised by a warm and dry spring, followed by a hot July, beneficial rainfall in August, and a dry, sunny September, leading to optimal phenolic ripeness. Grapes from clay-gravel and iron-rich subsoils were manually harvested. Fermentation occurred in concrete (and some stainless steel) vats, followed by malolactic fermentation and 18 months of aging in 40-50% new French oak barrels. The resulting wine is 14.5% ABV.

Vinous
The 2015 Gazin has a fragrant bouquet of blackberry, briary and truffle; a whiff of bonfire smoke emerges with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, quite edgy and tensile with a fresh, graphite and tobacco-laced finish that is classic in style. Superb, if missing the same horsepower of 12 months ago. This might well be closing down. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. Neal Martin1st July 2019
