Gazin 2012 showcases a deep ruby color, hinting at its concentration. On the nose, it reveals aromas of dark fruit, such as blackcurrant and plum, alongside earthy undertones and subtle hints of cedar and tobacco. The palate offers a medium body, characterized by well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. The flavors mirror the nose, with a blend of ripe fruit and a touch of spice that adds complexity.
Pomerol is known for its Merlot-dominant blends, and Gazin exemplifies this with the 2012 vintage, which benefited from favorable growing conditions. This wine is crafted from grapes grown on gravelly soils, enhancing its structure and depth. With aging potential, it can develop further complexity over the coming years, making it suitable for both immediate enjoyment and longer-term cellaring.

The 2012 Gazin is backward compared to its peers with introverted black fruit, black truffle and quite conspicuous cedar notes implying some Cabernet contribution. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy entry: white pepper infused red fruit, fine balance, modest depth with gentle grip. This is nicely proportioned and demonstrates assiduous winemaking. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Neal Martin27th September 2022
