Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 1999 originates from one of the Mosel Valley’s esteemed producers, renowned for their meticulous vineyard practices. This wine is crafted from the south-facing slopes of Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr, known for its distinctive Devonian slate terroir. The Goldkapsel designation indicates a selection of highly ripe grapes, often featuring significant botrytis influence. In the glass, the wine displays a deep gold colour. Aromas typically include notes of candied citrus, stone fruits and subtle nuances of slate minerality. The palate is notable for its balance of sweetness and acidity, promising longevity.
Vinous
The glass explodes with aromas of passion fruit, pineapple, honeysuckle and iris. The palate is very smooth, creamy, polished, glyceral and opulently redolent of tropical fruits. Sweetness is held in check by sheer extract and pleasantly nippy phenolics rather than by acidity. A fine, long finish displays honey, pineapple, passion fruit, marzipan and lingonberry. 2 stars.
