Flor de Pingus 2001 is a full-bodied blended red wine from the Ribera del Duero region. It presents a complex array of aromas and flavours. Characterised by dark fruits, such as black cherry and blackberry, it also offers earthy undertones and hints of savoury spices. The wine showcases a medium-to-full body with a structured but accessible profile. Notably, Flor de Pingus is produced by Dominio de Pingus, founded by renowned winemaker Peter Sisseck. This vintage is best enjoyed within its first decade, allowing the intricate layers to begin unfolding.

Full medium ruby. Roasted black fruits and graphite on the nose. Sweet, dense and full; the superripe black fruits show a roasted aspect, but firm acids are keeping the wine tightly wound. Needs another year or so to show more complexity. Peter Sisseck's second wine is from purchased grapes but may also contain some declassified Pingus barrels (in the difficult 2002 vintage, Sisseck has decided to declassify all of his Pingus material into the Flor de Pingus).Stephen Tanzer1st July 2003
