Château Filhot 1979 is a mature-vintage sweet wine from the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux. Fruitier and more fragrant than most Sauternes wines (possibly owing to the small proportion of aromatic Muscadelle in the assemblage), this wine is matured in old oak barrels. The Second Growth Château Filhot traves it history to the early 1700s and has been managed by Count Henri de Vaucelles and his son, Gabriel, since 1974.

Vinous
Like the 1981, the 1979 Filhot also displays some grey rot on the nose that detracts from the purity of fruit, although I find this less severe by comparison. The palate is sharp and bitter on the entry. The fruit faded some years ago resulting in a mean finish that leaves a vegetal residue in the mouth. Simply past its best. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Château Filhot. Neal Martin1st May 2019
