Figeac 2002 is a full-bodied, Merlot-based red wine from the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux. Château Figeac was the only estate to be upgraded to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the 2022 classification of Saint-Émilion. Owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892, this fine estate traces its history back to the Roman era. Today, the property spans approximately 40 hectares of vineyards, with the majority of the grapes going into the celebrated Grand Vin, a classic style of Saint-Émilion with wonderful texture and tannic power. "The 2002 Château Figeac is a very good wine that is now fully mature and drinking nicely. It is not a deep and full-scale example of Figeac, but it is very emblematic of this fine estate in a more middleweight vintage, offering up a lovey nose of red and black cherries, Cuban tobacco, a bit of heather, signed soil tones, a dollop of fresh herbs and an understated touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and complex, with lovely focus and balance, melting tannins and impressive length and grip on the fully mature finish. Good juice." John Gilman, 2018

The 2002 Figeac has an open and airy bouquet with perfumed red berry fruit, rose petal and quince. It gains delineation with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with rustic tannins, a little coarse, quite savoury in style with some dryness just creeping in towards the finish. I think that Cheval Blanc had the upper hand in this period. Bit short. Tasted at the château. Neal Martin27th September 2022

Château Figeac is one of the finest producers in Saint-Émilion and is just one of fourteen properties classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) in 2012, putting it firmly in the highest echelons of the region.

Owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892, the history of this superb estate can be traced back to the Roman era and today spans 40ha. The majority of the grapes produced go into producing the celebrated first wine of the estate, Château Figeac, a classic style of Saint-Émilion with wonderful texture and tannic power. A small amount of the second wine, Le Petit Figeac is also produced.
