An historic Premier Grand Cru Classé from the `86 vintage and a must for lovers of fine Saint-Émilion. Characterised by the charm of its Merlot, the elegance of its Cabernet Franc and the mineral texture of its Cabernet Sauvignon. Perfectly mature, look for tertiary notes of tobacco, truffle and dried currants with an elegant herbal lift.

The 1986 Figeac does not quite match the previous bottles I tasted twice at the property in 2015. It has a cohesive, quite Left Bank style nose with leather and cedar, less of the truffle quotient than before. The palate is medium-bodied but certainly endowed with a firm structure. The Cabernet is more expressive than the Merlot and yet not delivering close to the quality that I believe Figeac has done since 2013. It is certainly attractive in the sense of classic, traditional Saint-Émilion, yet you come away with a feeling that it never reaches its full potential. Tasted at Christies' Figeac dinner with Marie-France Manoncourt. Neal Martin1st July 2018

Chateau Figeac
An Elegant Right Bank Estate
Château Figeac is one of the finest producers in Saint-Émilion and is just one of fourteen properties classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) in 2012, putting it firmly in the highest echelons of the region.
Owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892, the history of this superb estate can be traced back to the Roman era and today spans 40ha. The majority of the grapes produced go into producing the celebrated first wine of the estate, Château Figeac, a classic style of Saint-Émilion with wonderful texture and tannic power. A small amount of the second wine, Le Petit Figeac is also produced.
