Situated in the Saint-Émilion appellation, Château-Figeac has been in the same family for nearly 130 years. The estate produces some of the most coveted Bordeaux wines, renowned for its enormous. aging potential. This expression is from the 1982 vintage, a legendary year which produced some of the most complex Bordeaux wines since 1961. Expect notes of fruitcake, soft spices, black and red berries, mint and just a touch of smoke.

The 1982 Figeac is a Saint-Émilion that I have tasted three times in recent months. It seems to be enjoying a second wind. This is powerful on the nose with dark berry fruit, melted tar, tobacco and cedar. There is a sense of "correctness" in this Figeac that is uncommon amongst 1982s. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity; fresh and vibrant with a saline, quite sappy finish, there is a hint of black pepper on the aftertaste. This is an excellent showing, probably at its peak. Tasted blind at the "Two" dinner at Domaine de Chevalier. Neal Martin27th September 2022

Mid-ruby with developed rim. Some green, unripe notes on the nose. Gentle, ready but a rather weak example. Soft and easy on the palate but that green note persists. (JR)

Château Figeac is one of the finest producers in Saint-Émilion and is just one of fourteen properties classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) in 2012, putting it firmly in the highest echelons of the region.

Owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892, the history of this superb estate can be traced back to the Roman era and today spans 40ha. The majority of the grapes produced go into producing the celebrated first wine of the estate, Château Figeac, a classic style of Saint-Émilion with wonderful texture and tannic power. A small amount of the second wine, Le Petit Figeac is also produced.
