Block 3 Pinot Noir 2016 is a single-vineyard red wine from Felton Road, grown on a north-facing slope in Bannockburn with a complex mix of loess and calcified soils. The 2016 vintage is particularly opulent, featuring a meaty nose of dark fruit, humus and dark rose petals. Despite the wine`s richness, it maintains a core of vibrant acidity and finely integrated tannins, a result of the estate`s biodynamic farming and gravity-flow winemaking. This Pinot Noir is defined by its aromatic complexity and textural elegance, offering a more floral and approachable profile than the brawnier Block 5, while still providing the depth required for long-term cellaring.

The 2016 Block 3 Pinot Noir has more intensity and guts than the 2015, presenting an enticing mélange of red and black fruit laced with Earl Grey, bergamot and a touch of smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, real tension and drive and a sense of energy on the finish that leaves the mouth crying out for more. It sits comfortably between Old and New World in style and it will age effortlessly over the next 15 years or so. Neal Martin1st November 2018

Bannockburn. 25% whole bunch, 40% new oak. Lightish crimson. Much prettier than the 2015 with a floral note alongside lots of red fruit. Scented on the palate too, the tannins seem more subtle and perfectly frame the fruit. Super-fine texture and very persistent. (JH)
