Château Faugères is a wine estate situated in the Saint-Émilion appellation, recognized as a Grand Cru Classé in 2012. Owned by Swiss entrepreneur Silvio Denz since 2005, the property consists of 37 hectares of cultivated vineyard, sitting atop a limestone plateau. This is the 2010 vintage, composed of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. A medium-bodied wine, filled with creamy notes of plums, vanilla, cocoa and espresso.
92 Vinous
(15% alcohol): Full, bright medium ruby. Superripe aromas of dark fruits, mocha, truffle and chocolatey oak. Full, broad and concentrated; quite plush but good energy keeps if from coming off as heavy. Sexy flavors of black raspberry, toffee and mocha are layered and deep. Finishes with serious but sweet and thoroughly ripe tannins that saturate the cheeks. This has much more stuffing and spine to support aging than the regular Faugeres bottling: in fact, I'd give it five years in the cellar to absorb some of its oak and shed some baby fat.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2013
