This is a wonderfully full-bodied and characterful wine from AOC Corbières Boutenac produced by the Fabre family at Château Fabre Gasparets. The 2015 is a blend of 50% Carignan, 30% Mourvèdre and 20% Syrah which matures for one year in a combination oak barrels and concrete eggs. This is a plush, polished and modern style of southern French red exuding creamy red and black berry fruits, cedar, wild herbs and spices. For all its initial richness and power, it is wonderfully balanced, silky and surprisingly elegant, and concludes with a long, lingering finish.

Carignan, Syrah, Mourvèdre. 12 months in French oak.Very heavy bottle. Lots of yeasty beef-extract flavours and black-olive tapenade. Mouth-coating stuff. Thick, burly, rugby-prop tannins. Dark mushrooms and earthiness and black, black fruit. But there is a bit of a lift in the mid palate. This would be great with game and mushroom pie loaded with thyme.
