Ermitage L`Ermite Chapoutier 2006 is crafted exclusively from Syrah grapes, sourced from the upper slopes of the Hermitage hill, an area recognised for its challenging granitic soils. This wine undergoes destemming and ferments for about four weeks in concrete tanks, maintaining a controlled temperature for quality extraction. It is aged for 18 to 20 months in new and one-year-old casks, allowing for complex integration. Chapoutier, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in France, has a history of innovation since its establishment in 1808.

Full ruby. A roomfilling bouquet of fresh red and dark berry scents, along with smoked meat, violet, incense and minerals. Wonderfully fresh in the mouth, with vibrant raspberry and black cherry flavors. Gentle tannins rein in the expansive fruit without standing in its way. The finish is all about fruit, with late-arriving notes of black olive and smoky minerals. Extremely sexy now but balanced to age.Josh Raynolds1st January 2009

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
