Ermitage L`Ermite Blanc Chapoutier 2010 is a Marsanne from the Hermitage appellation of the Northern Rhône. M Chapoutier is a revered producer, renowned for its pioneering biodynamic practices and its profound, single-vineyard bottlings. This wine is made from 100% Marsanne grapes grown in the producer`s small, high-altitude parcel in the lieu-dit of L`Ermite, a vineyard located at the top of the Hermitage hill. The 2010 vintage was a classic year, producing wines with great power and freshness. It presents a complex bouquet of honeysuckle, apricot and toasted nuts, with nuances of beeswax and a smoky minerality. The palate is rich and full-bodied yet beautifully structured by a piercing acidity, leading to a long, balanced finish.
96 Vinous
(100% marsanne, from ungrafted vines, many of which reportedly pre-date phylloxera): Vivid gold. Explosive, mineral-drenched aromas of nectarine, poached pear, honey and anise, with a smoky overtone. Completely coats the palate with deeply concentrated orchard and pit fruit flavors and picks up bright chalk and floral nuances with air. As much a solid as a liquid, and yet the wine shows an uncanny litheness and precision. Finishes sappy, incisive and relentlessly long, leaving iodine, pear and floral notes behind, eventually. Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
