The Ermitage Blanc L`Ermite Chapoutier 2005 is a single-vineyard white wine from the Rhône Valley. Situated at the apex of the Hermitage hill, this wine benefits from the region`s unique granite soils. It presents a layered mouthfeel, underpinned by notable minerality, with aromas of citrus zest and stone fruit. The wine’s complexity reflects the age of its vines, some of which exceed 130 years. Chapoutier, renowned for its biodynamic practices, has crafted a wine that balances opulence with vibrant acidity, showcasing the exceptional terroir of Hermitage.

At the very top of the appellation’s dome of decomposed granite is l’Ermite. This wine is the equivalent of drinking liquified rocks. The 2005 Ermitage l’Ermite blanc has that multi-layered mouthfeel, an extraordinary nose of intense minerality, quince, and white fruits. Some of the vines in this parcel are 130 years old, and the wine has over-the-top richness yet amazing acidity, depth, and a freshness that is hard to believe given its power and intensity. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Yellow-gold. Smoky, mineral-dominated bouquet offers an explosion of orchard and pit fruits, fresh flowers, herbs and smoky minerals, with exotic spices adding complexity. Mineral-saturated pear, orange and white truffles on the palate, with nervy acidity adding spine. Takes over the palate with deeply concentrated white and yellow fruit compote flavors, and finishes with smoky mineral grip. This is strongly reminiscent of a Montrachet.Josh Raynolds1st January 2008

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
