M Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc Cuvée de L`Oree 2019 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard white wine produced from Marsanne grapes in the northern Rhône Valley. Made from 70-year-old marsanne vines grown in Les Murets, a 3.5ha vineyard in the chalkier, eastern section of Hermitage, this is an unctuous white and one of the fines examples of this cuvée yet produced. "It reveals a vivid gold hue to go with gorgeous honeyed peach, white currants, quince, crushed stone, and white flower-like aromas and flavors. This full-bodied white has terrific concentration, a rich, layered mouthfeel, beautiful acidity, and a finish that just won`t quit. Offering more fat and opulence than the L`Ermite and more minerality than the Le Meal, this pinnacle Hermitage Blanc needs a year or three of bottle age, then should drink nicely for 5-7 years, at which point it`s best forgotten in the cellar for another decade. It should last for 20-30 years." Jeb Dunnuck, 2020

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
