Eric Rodez is prestigious grower champagne producer who has previously worked as cellar master at Krug. His family has been growing grapes in Ambonnay for more than nine generations and today, he runs a boutique, biodynamic estate. The Cuvée des Crayères is a blend composed of 58% Pinot Noir and 42% Chardonnay sourced from the grand cru vineyards in Ambonnay. Its is a fresh and floral champagne, with bright, fruity notes and mineral accents.
91 Vinous
(55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay; 6 g/l dosage; L01-14): Light yellow-gold. Aromas of Poire William, white flowers and honey are lifted by a zesty mineral topnote. Fleshy and dry on the palate, offering very good lift and clarity to its bitter quince and peach pit flavors. Closes on an emphatic, sharply focused mineral note, with firm grip and spicy persistence. Josh Raynolds1st January 2015

Bold, Expressive Champagnes

Based in the renowned Grand Cru village of Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims, Eric Rodez is a leading producer of fine Champagnes. With a Champagne-making history stretching back many generations, the domaine is now run by Eric, his wife Martine and his son, Mickaël (the ninth generation of the winemaking family).

Eric Rodez owns 9ha of Pinot Noir vines and 7ha of Chardonnay along the south and southeast-facing slopes of Ambonnay. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically while, in the cellar, about 70% of Rodez Champagne is fermented and aged in oak.

The character of Rodez Champagnes is heavily defined by the judicious blending of reserve wines with the new-vintage wine, with Eric using up to 10 different vintages in his final cuvées – his experience in the cellar at Champagne Krug surely a factor there. Whatever the particular cuvée, Rodez Champagnes are consistently elegant, vinous yet deliciously complex.
