Emilio Rojo Ribeiro 2021 is a benchmark white wine from Galicia, Spain, made predominantly from the indigenous Treixadura grape and other local varieties. The vineyards are situated on the steep slope, and schist and granite soils of the Ribeiro region, which impart a distinct structural salinity to this wine. The palate is medium-bodied and layered, offering a compelling textural richness and an oily weight that is expertly cut by a saline-infused acidity. It is a deeply complex, gastronomic white wine built for the cellar, whose unique structure demands air to reveal its full mineral character.

The serious and austere 2021 Emilio Rojo comes from the historical vineyard always worked by Emilio Rojo, now in the process to be certified organic. In 2021, because of the challenges of the year, they harvested over four different periods of time—September 6, 12, 18 and 22. It fermented in three stainless steel tanks and one concrete egg, where the wines matured. It`s clearly a cooler, more Atlantic vintage, a sharper and characterful wine with some savory aromas, hints of nettle and other wild herbs, moss and river stones. It has a moderate 12% alcohol, a pH of 3.41 and 5.88 grams of acidity and comes through as sharp and balanced. It was a very small crop that delivered 2,365 bottles and 160 magnums. It was bottled in July 2022. It should be released at the end of 2024. An age-worthy vintage.

The 2021 Emilio Rojo from Ribeiro combines Treixadura, Lado, Godello, Albariño, Caíño Blanco, Torrontés and Loureira. This reductive white opens with gunpowder, mint and herbal tones, evolving to reveal apple and delicate white flowers. Currently fragile, it will improve with bottle age, as it’s released after two years in bottle. Tense, medium-bodied and creamy, it finishes with hints of fruit and herbs, showing slight grip from skin contact.Joaquin Hidalgo25th March 2025
