Egon Müller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2023 is a dry Riesling from the renowned monopole vineyard of Braune Kupp in the Saar region. This wine is characterised by its mineral-driven profile, arising from the vineyard`s steep brown slate slopes. The bouquet reveals notes of green apple, pear and a hint of citrus, entwined with the vineyard’s stony character. The vintage showcases classic Kabinett traits, with a precise acidity that enhances its clarity and focus.

The 2023 Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett opens clear and bright on the stunningly coolish and filigreed nose that certainly also displays delicate slate aromas. It is openhearted yet also fascinatingly refined and built up from ripe and concentrated fruit. Dense and savory on the palate, this is a substantial Kabinett from vines planted in the late 19th century and that were partly renewed in 1994 and 2015. It is a spicy, energetic and remarkably complex Kabinett with a lot of substance and ripe acidity. It is very long and not really sweet in taste. This is a gorgeous Kabinett from a warmer monopole where Egon Müller cultivates four hectares of vines, half of which is leased. Although fermented in the Scharzhof like all the wines from Egon Müller, it comes with another label and the addition Le Gallais. Tasted form AP #2 in April 2024. - Stephan Reinhardt

King of the Mosel Valley

Broadly considered to make some of the greatest Rieslings in the world, the Egon Müller winery has been in the same family since 1797. Farming on the steep slopes of the Mosel valley, the estate owns around one third of the famous Scharzofberg vineyard, one of the region's greatest. That parcel includes three hectares of ungrafted vines - a rarity in any European grape growing region.

Extreme care is taken in the vineyard and all grapes are hand harvested. Fruit is pressed without any skin contact to preserve freshness and fermentation takes place in large, one thousand litre casks in cool cellars beneath the valley where they rest for around six months before bottling. The dry wines are clean and fresh with an unmistakable elegance while the sweeter wines (Spatlese, Auslese and TBA) offer a richness and depth of flavour that make them some of the greatest in Germany.
