Egon Müller is a prestigious winery located near Wiltingen, a small yet important town on the lower Saar river within the wider Mosel region. The estate has a singular focus on Riesling and has built a reputation for its exceptional wines crafted from the Scharzhofberg vineyard, positioned to the southeast of Wiltingen. Egon Müller IV, the current director of the estate, honed his winemaking skills through studies at the prestigious Geisenheim University. This Riesling Kabinett showcases briny and mineral elements, intertwined with fragrant jasmine and zesty lemon citrus. It offers a refreshing juiciness and concludes with a subtle hint of ginger on the finish.

The 2022 Riesling Scharzhofberger Kabinett has a very open but tender nose: ripe greengage is bright and edged with a whisper of chervil. The sweetness on the palate kicks in first, but lightness takes over with serene lemon freshness and fine, almost earthy stone. Ripe greengage, delineated by lemon, soaks up that initial sugar and presents it as juicy, ripe fruit. Finesse runs through this, dancing on light Kabinett feet. The finish is merely off-dry. Egon Muller

King of the Mosel Valley

Broadly considered to make some of the greatest Rieslings in the world, the Egon Müller winery has been in the same family since 1797. Farming on the steep slopes of the Mosel valley, the estate owns around one third of the famous Scharzofberg vineyard, one of the region's greatest. That parcel includes three hectares of ungrafted vines - a rarity in any European grape growing region.

Extreme care is taken in the vineyard and all grapes are hand harvested. Fruit is pressed without any skin contact to preserve freshness and fermentation takes place in large, one thousand litre casks in cool cellars beneath the valley where they rest for around six months before bottling. The dry wines are clean and fresh with an unmistakable elegance while the sweeter wines (Spatlese, Auslese and TBA) offer a richness and depth of flavour that make them some of the greatest in Germany.
