Domaine Robert Arnoux Echézeaux 2002 (NB. in 2008 this domaine changed its name to Arnoux-Lachaux) is a mature Grand Cru Burgundy Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. Situated on the southern edge of the Côte de Nuits, up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux, Echézeaux is one of the largest Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. The 2002 vintage was considered very good for both reds and whites in Burgundy, and has long been a favourite of aficionados. It produced vibrant, pure-fruited, elegant Pinots, with particularly noteworthy examples among the Grands Crus. "Light crimson, pretty pale. Vigorously aromatic and already quite nuanced. Great balance and precision. Even if it`s not opulent, it`s certainly convincing and sculpted and already fun to drink. Notably pure with integrity and some spiciness." Jancis Robinson MW, 2009

I was never a great fan of Arnoux's Burgundy wines and the 2002 Echézeaux reminded me of my antipathy. I find the nose a little hot and bretty, almost Rhône like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, perhaps too sweet with ripe black plum and blueberry, segueing into a spicy, rather heavy-handed finish. It's just not my style. Tasted blind at Philippe's Xmas lunch.Neal Martin1st May 2019
