Based in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet produces some of the most coveted wines from the Côte d`Or. Founder Étienne Camuzet was both a vigneron as well as a dedicated politician who spent most of his time in Paris. Today, Méo-Camuzet covers approximately 14 hectares of vines in very prestigious appellations in Burgundy. Since 1989, the estate has been overseen by Jean-Nicolas Méo, who also looks after Nicolas-Jay estate in Oregon. This release comes from a tiny parcel in the lieu-dit Rouges du Bas, one of the higher spots of the Echézeaux appellation. The 2019 vintage shows remarkable concentration, with a core of dark plummy fruit complemented by hints of smoke, spice and minerality.
Vinous
The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru is very refined and pure on a nose featuring beautifully integrated oak, perfumed violets and iris petals with just a hint of iodine coming through. The palate is well balanced and fresh. Jean-Nicolas Méo commented that this sample was not showing as it ought to, and I agreed, which is why I will not rate it for now. Neal Martin1st December 2020
