Located in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet produces some of the most sough-after wines from the Côte d`Or. Founder Étienne Camuzet was both a vigneron as well as a dedicated politician who spent most of his time in Paris. Today, Méo-Camuzet covers approximately 14 hectares of vines in very prestigious appellations and crus in Burgundy. Since 1989, the estate has been overseen by Jean-Nicolas Méo, who also looks after Nicolas-Jay estate in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. This is a rare bottle of their ‘Échezeaux Grand Cru’ from 2012, generally regarded as a good year for red wines.
Vinous
A wine of extraordinary beauty and finesse, the 2012 Echezeaux is simply stunning. Black fruit, iron, cloves, new leather and licorice all burst from the glass. There is plenty of underlying structure, but the fruit is so deep and intense the overall impression is one of seamlessness. Asian spices, tar and star anise add compelling dimensions of exoticism on the close. In 2012, the Echezeaux is cool, sophisticated and full of promise. Readers who can find the 2012 should not hesitate, it is stunning. Antonio Galloni1st January 2014
