Joseph Drouhin Échézeaux 2005 is a mature-vintage Burgundy Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru climat of Échézeaux in the Côte de Nuits. Joseph Drouhin is one of the most respected names in Burgundy. An owner of domaines including Domaine Marquis de Laguiche and the monopole of Clos des Mouches, as well as operating a hugely successful negociant business, the family-owned Drouhin is justly respected for producing such a diverse portfolio of Burgundy wines with such a clear signature of their terroir. Its vineyard holdings in the Côte de Nuits are all managed organically and biodynamically, with wholebunch fermentations and only moderate use of new oak preferred for the domaine Pinot Noirs. Winemaker note. "Elegance and perfection, two of Joseph Drouhin`s tenets. The colour is bright and intense. A full palette of aromas reminiscent of stone fruit (cherry, peach, apricot), cocoa, exotic wood (cedar). On the palate, the texture is like silk and velvet. In the aftertaste, the same touch of dark chocolate is in evidence. Extremely long aftertaste... 2005 offers a real pleasure for all the appellations, with intense red ruby colours. The aroma expression is complex. A great vintage of great ageing potential."
