Situated in Margaux, second growth Château Durfort-Vivens has been in the prestigious Lurton family since 1961. Somewhat under the radar, the estate produces wonderful Left Bank Bordeaux reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, grown on gravel soils. The 1995 vintage is characterised by concentrated red fruit with smoky complexity.

I rarely see this wine before bottling. The 1995 reveals a dark ruby color with purple tints. It exhibits moderate ripeness, as well as black-cherry scents intermingled with earth, olives, and oak. Moderately tannic, with medium body, this should be a mid-weight, unobtrusive style of claret that should drink well for 10-12 years.
All of the wines in this segment were tasted between March 19 and March 28 in Bordeaux. Most of the important wines from both the 1994 and 1995 vintages were tasted three separate times during my ten-day stay in Bordeaux. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

2ème Grand Cru Classé

Somewhat under the radar, this superb 2ème Grand Cru Classé estate produces wonderful Left Bank Bordeaux reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, grown on gravel soils.

Owned by the high-profile Lurton family since 1961, Château Durfort-Vivens has been certified biodynamic since 2016. The resultant wines are beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines that are built for aging. There is an emphasis on low-intervention winemaking, whilst 45% oak is used for the first wine and 20% for the second ‘Vivens’. A beautiful expression of the Margaux appellation.
