Duo de Conseillante 2012 presents a deep ruby color, suggesting a rich extraction. On the nose, it reveals aromas of dark berries, plum, and hints of cedar, intertwined with earthy undertones. The palate is marked by a medium body, showcasing flavors of cherry and blackcurrant, accompanied by subtle notes of tobacco. The tannins are present but well-integrated, offering a smooth mouthfeel.

This wine is a second wine from Château La Conseillante, known for its Merlot-dominant blends. The 2012 vintage benefited from favorable weather conditions, allowing for a well-rounded and approachable wine. Duo de Conseillante aims to reflect the characteristics of its esteemed parent vineyard while providing an accessible option for wine enthusiasts. Ideal for early drinking, it pairs well with roasted meats and hearty dishes.

The 2012 Duo de Conseillante is much better than the 2011. lively, vivacious red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, a touch of sous-bois and cigar humidor. I like the delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. Certainly this Duo is not short of substance with a gentle tannic grip towards the finely balanced, harmonious finish. Excellent for a deuxième vin. Tasted at La Conseillante vertical at the property. - Neil Martin

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the eastern flank of the Pomerol commune, La Conseillante has a long history dating back the early 1700s. The team farms around 13 hectares of vineyards, comprising 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. All grapes are hand harvested, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a keen eye on temperature control to preserve fruit character. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in 90% new oak for around 18 months before being bottled without filtration.

The vineyards of La Conseillante share borders with those of L'Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc - illustrious neighbours indeed. Since the 2000 vintage, the wines have been characterised by a fullness and concentration that easily allows for extended cellaring and offers a hedonistic treat in youth.
