Located in Yountville within the Napa Valley AVA, Dominus is a wine estate producing Bordeaux-style blends. The estate was founded in 1983 by Christian Moueix, who is also the owner of Château Pétrus in the Pomerol region of Bordeaux. The vineyard was originally planted in 1838 by George C. Yount, for whom the town of Yountville was named. Released in summer 2024, the 2021 vintage is a blend composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine reveals its charms gradually, unfurling notes of rich plum, cassis, fresh pine and baking spice.
100 The Wine Independent
The 2021 Dominus, 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, is opaque purple-black in color. It needs a lot of coaxing to lure out scents of freshly crushed blackcurrants, blackberry preserves, stewed plums, and boysenberries giving way to subtle nuances of violets, licorice, and tar plus a touch of cedar in the background. The full-bodied palate is taut with densely laden, muscular black fruits framed by a firm grainy texture and well-played tension, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. A stunning vinous record of time and place, this is a 50-year+ Napa Cabernet to be experienced across generations. 3,700 cases were made.Lisa Perrotti-Brown30th May 2024
98 Vinous
The 2021 Dominus is a powerful, tightly-coiled wine that is holding back quite a bit of reserve. There's real depth and resonance waiting to emerge as the wine matures. Floral overtones and bright acids confer energy to a core of red/bluish fruits. Readers will find a Dominus built more on linear precision rather than opulence. It is hugely impressive in this tasting, with a long chalky finish.Antonio Galloni21st December 2023

A First Growth in Napa
Along with Opus One, Dominus is one of the greatest examples of applying the Bordelais approach to winemaking to the great vineyards of the Napa Valley. Grapes are sourced from Yountville, specifically the historic Napanook vineyard, from which the winery's second wine takes its name.
The 'Grand Vin' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - a classic Bordeaux blend. After vinification, around 30% of the wine is loaded into new oak barrels for 15 months before bottling. Initial releases of Dominus met with mixed reviews, but since the late 1990s, the winery has established itself as one of the greatest in America.
