Owned by French winemaker Christian Moueix, Dominus Estate spans approximately 124 acres of vineyards in the Napa Valley. Focused on crafting Bordeaux-style wines, the winery is celebrated for its flagship wine, Dominus, which was first produced in 1983. Released in September 2005, the 2002 vintage is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. On the nose, expect aromas of leather, roasted almonds and blackberries. On the palate, the tannins are integrated with hints of cacao, cinnamon and vanilla.

The 2002 Dominus offers a striking interplay of the earthy/savory character typical of this site with the natural breadth of the vintage. The combination is super attractive, to say the least. Succulent red cherry, plum, five-spice, cedar, leather and tobacco all build as the 2002 shows off its sumptuous personality. A long, beautifully resonant finish caps off this stunning Dominus. The 2002 is a gorgeous Napa Valley Cabernet to drink over the next decade or more. It's a fabulous effort from Christian Moueix and winemaker Boris Champy.Antonio Galloni9th May 2024

A First Growth in Napa

Along with Opus One, Dominus is one of the greatest examples of applying the Bordelais approach to winemaking to the great vineyards of the Napa Valley. Grapes are sourced from Yountville, specifically the historic Napanook vineyard, from which the winery's second wine takes its name.

The 'Grand Vin' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - a classic Bordeaux blend. After vinification, around 30% of the wine is loaded into new oak barrels for 15 months before bottling. Initial releases of Dominus met with mixed reviews, but since the late 1990s, the winery has established itself as one of the greatest in America.
