Rooted in values of quality, stewardship, tradition and innovation, the Dominus Estate team produces distinctive wines that express the essence of the historic Napanook vineyard. Known for complexity and balance, this Cabernet blend is structured, seamless and perfectly integrated. The 1998 vintage displays a complex nose of figs, tobacco, toasted hazelnuts and wild strawberries. The voluptuous texture is surrounded by sweet tannins, with a pleasant and harmonious finish.
90 Vinous
Saturated red. Aromas of cherry, raspberry, smoked meat, roasted tomato, earth and tobacco leaf; deeper and more complex than the Napanook bottling. A step up in complexity, vibrancy and precision of flavor. Silky and fairly deep, with slightly truffley chocolate and tobacco flavors. Finishes with big but suave tannins and a hint of licorice. This offers rather powerful material for the year but nonetheless seems a bit dry next to the '99.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2001

A First Growth in Napa

Along with Opus One, Dominus is one of the greatest examples of applying the Bordelais approach to winemaking to the great vineyards of the Napa Valley. Grapes are sourced from Yountville, specifically the historic Napanook vineyard, from which the winery's second wine takes its name.

The 'Grand Vin' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - a classic Bordeaux blend. After vinification, around 30% of the wine is loaded into new oak barrels for 15 months before bottling. Initial releases of Dominus met with mixed reviews, but since the late 1990s, the winery has established itself as one of the greatest in America.
