Domaine de l`Eglise 2012 is a medium-to-full-bodied Merlot-based red wine from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. Château du Domaine de L`Église is thought to be the oldest wine producer in Pomerol. Its vineyards are planted on gravelly clay soil and are planted predominantly to Merlot, with a small amount of Cabernet Franc. In 1972, the 7-hectare estate was acquired by Emile Castéja, who also owns Château Batailley and Château Trotte Vieille. The 2012 vintage was largely successful in Pomerol, producing wines with ripe Merlot character and good ageability.

There's sweet dark fruit underneath but quite a bit of char on the top. Pushed quite far so the finish is slightly aggressive, almost over-concentrated but maybe it just needs a lot more time. (JH)Julia Harding30th April 2013
