Diamond Creek Vineyards has four distinctly different vineyards that yield equally singular Cabernet Sauvignons. Volcanic Hill has the warmest micro-climate and produces the longest-lived wines. It contains a tiny amount of Petit Verdot and is full-bodied, loaded with intense berry fruit, and has superb length.

The highlight in this range, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic Hill is the biggest and most dramatic of these wines. It is also the wine in this range that plays more true to type. An exotic mélange of crème de cassis, crushed rocks, menthol, licorice, liquefied rocks and blueberry jam run through this sumptuous, full-bodied Cabernet. Diamond Creek fans will flip out over the 2014, as it captures all the signatures of this great site and yet won't take years (or decades) to be at its best. Today, the Volcanic Hill is super impressive, not to mention flat-out delicious. Antonio Galloni1st January 2018
