Based in Saint-Laurent-Médoc, Château de Camensac is a Fifth Growth property currently owned by Jean Merlaut and Céline Villars-Foubet. The estate covers approximately 150 hectares, 86 of which are under vine. This is the 2010 vintage of its Grand Vin, a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. A very elegant and full-bodied claret, boasting velvety tannins, and notes of sour cherry and black pepper.

The most structured in the vertical to date, not as luscious and welcoming as the 2009, but this is overflowing with Cabernet Sauvignon and Left Bank character - meaning crayon, slate, mint leaf, cassis, black chocolate. The tannins have a slate minerality to them, grip and slowing down through the palate. Harvest September 29 to October 21, onoe of the longest on record. A little slim and austere right now, although there is lots of life ahead, and you can see the potential of the estate begin to take shape. Bright red-ruby. Medicinal aromas of black cherry, cassis and licorice. Classically dry and cool but with good mid-palate texture and ripeness. The medicinal quality carries through to the persistent finish but the tannins avoid coming off as dry. Very successful for this estate.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2013

A strong effort from this large estate, Camensac’s 2010 offers up classic Bordeaux notes of tobacco leaf, licorice, red and black currants, and some spicy oak. It has light to medium tannin, medium body, and good purity and cleanliness. Anticipated maturity: now-2025.Robert Parker28th February 2013
